My Testimonial - Dr. Miles Upfold, Chiropractor

Being a chiropractor, you would think I would obviously know all about the benefits of chiropractic, and I thought I did too!

I didn’t. I got into chiropractic in the first place because my family had benefited from chiropractic and I had seen the results first hand, however, when I first started being adjusted I was never put on a proper schedule of care and definitely was never followed up or re-examined. This didn’t particularly bother me at the time because I never had any symptoms. No aches or pains, nothing that I thought was out of the ordinary anyway. I was fit, active and thought I felt normal.

There were of course a couple of things…I had this heel pain that in retrospect I had experienced for years. Even as a kid I remember having to take a season off soccer because of the pain. I always wore heel pads in my boots and shoes and had seen a sports podiatrist. Nothing made any difference. I used to change my shoes at lunch time because of the ache, which I assumed was something I just had to put up with because I was on my feet all day.

There was also that energy problem…I thought I lived a very full life both socially and physically and as a result had a lack of energy. Not the sort that would keep me in bed, although a lot of the time I just couldn’t be bothered doing things outside of work. By the end of each day I was exhausted and always, absolutely always, I had to have at least 8-9 hours sleep a night. This made me just a little bit grumpy (not much.)

Then the turning point came. Megs my wife picked up on the fact that it was odd that I would treat my patients differently than I would treat my family. I asked what she meant, she said “your patients get a full exam, they get checked and re-checked and I have never had that once!” I said “well neither have I!”

I was getting adjusted regularly – as often as I felt I needed, and I should know when I needed it because I was a chiropractor!

How wrong was I? At the insistence of my wife I booked myself into a chiropractor who I hadn’t seen before, who I felt knew what they were doing. They performed on me a full exam, took new x-rays and then got me back in for the report the next day. Following the report I was recommended a full schedule of care based on my findings starting with daily adjustments. I stuck to it. That was a number of years ago now and I still stick to it.

I stick to it now because I know what a difference it has made to my life. My heel pain cleared up, gone – something that I didn’t think chiropractic could help with me (just my patients) and 20 years later I realised I was wrong. My energy levels changed completely, I could get more done in the day, stay up later be more effective with my time, do more!

Most importantly though is the effect it had on my relationships with those around me, I was a better person to be around, because I loved life more – there was more to love.

Now things are different. Once per week I check my wife and children. They all have an appointment and they come into the clinic and get checked. I re-examine them when required, which of course includes re-x-ray. This is how I stay on top of everything, how I know that they are getting the absolute best chiropractic care possible, just as I hope to provide for all my patients.

So guess where I am 8am every Wednesday morning? Yep, getting checked by my chiropractor! And yes when the time comes I still get re-examined and re-x-rayed. This is the only way that I too can know that I am the best I can possibly be! Why would I settle for anything less?
